Tower of Terror 13K Race/Harry's Birthday

A while ago, Harry decided that he wanted to participate in a race a Walt Disney World. So, when
came along, and it was on his birthday, it was perfect.
Just to give you a rundown, 13K is equal to 8.1 miles. We started to train on Labor Day. We had a training schedule which seemed to work quite well. We each would run alone on Monday and Wednesday followed by a long run together on Saturday mornings. We started with 2 miles and slowly worked our way up. Things went great until we hit about the 6th week. There was a combination of illness (both of us), injuries (both of us), and irateness (mostly me). So, the longest we ran before the race was 7 miles. We didn't think that there was going to be any trouble with the last 1.1 miles...ha, ha, ha.
We headed down to Orlando on October 26th. It just so happened that Jacque, Joe, Luke, and Tori Hanks were down there to see their daughter/sister, Caroline, perform for Disney's Magic Music Days with her chorus from school. So, we decided to go to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party together that evening. We had a blast. There are a lot of people dressed up in costumes (Luke & Tori dressed up like Dash & Violet Incredible), trick-or-treating stops, and disco dance parties...not to mention all of the rides. It was so much fun. The castle was very eerie dressed in orange and sometimes purple lights. For the actual fireworks celebration, they had ghosts and skeletons projected on the castle....spoooky.

On October 27th, we tried to relax as much as we could. You see, the race started at 9:30 PM. It was a night race...to add to the ambiance. It had rained most of the day and most of the day before. Rain equals humidity; and Humidity equals aches and pains for me and many of my injuries. We headed for MGM Studios and the starting line at about 7:30 PM. Little did we know that we were going to be sitting in traffic for 1 1/2 hours! Harry was really sweating wondering if we were going to make it, or not. Luckily, we did. The race was great, but due to the humidity I was hurting--BIG TIME. After all was said and done, we got toward the finish line where I made a mad dash. Harry was astonished that I would take off like that seeing as how I was at least 6 strides behind him at all times. He caught up to me and we both finished in 2 hours 6 minutes and 8 seconds. Not too shabby. Will we do it again? Not the 13K. We both agreed that the 6.5K (4.0 miles) would have been a lot better; and we would have actually been able to enjoy the after-party at MGM. We were so beat after the race that all we wanted to do was go back to our room, take a hot shower, and crash...which we did. We got some really cool medals, though, and a lot of good memories. And, all in all, a great birthday for Harry.
