First Level 5 Gymnastics Meet of the Season

Well, gymanstics competition season has commenced. We spent yesterday in Loganville at the Summer Sizzler hosted by Rockdale Gymnastics. Hannah was EXTREMELY nervous to the point of panic and hysteria at times. She pulled it together just before the meet, though.

Her first event was Floor. It's never been her best, but she has worked really hard trying to get the routine down. She was doing fine until about 1/4 of the way through the routine. Then, she got this glazed looked on her face. She was doing the correct steps to the routine, but she wasn't quite in the right place on the floor to get full credit for them. She ended up getting a 7.875 on her routine. She was so upset. When we asked her what happened. She said that she had no recollection of anything on the floor from about a 1/4 of the way through until her final tumbling pass. She had essentially blacked out. Scary! We're going to have to keep an eye on that.

Her next event was Vault. This year, instead of just "flopping" on the mats, she actually has to land a handspring off of the vault. She's been doing this all along, but today she was a little off (probably still recovering from the floor routine incident) and scored an 8.550. Still a respectable score for the first meet of a new level, though.

Bars were next. The judges were scoring this event VERY harshly. The average score was only an 8.0. There were several 7's and even some 6's on this event. Hannah did beautifully and stuck her dismount. We were thrilled when we saw that she scored an 8.150.

Beam was the last event; and it's the event that makes me the craziest. I don't breathe the entire time she's on that beam. I'm usually praying and hoping and crossing my fingers that all goes well and she doesn't fall off. Not only did she stay on the beam and not fall off, she did a really nice job on her routine. She scored an 8.325.

In the end, she placed 6th out of 15 on the Bars; and 10th out of 15 over-all. And the team finished 8th out of 9 (our team only had 3 girls, though...everyone else had 5 or more). She was so nervous for this first meet. We're just glad that it's done and over with. Now, she can move on to the next meet---The Goldrush Invitational in two weeks.

I found myself holding my breath as I watched her routine on the beam. Amazing! Good Job, Hannah!

Tell Hannah that I loved her Splits and her grace even though she felt that she had lost her view of what she needed to do. Luckily, for all of us, our body seems to have things memorized even though our mind or heart might not! It wasn't obvious!!!

I don't know how she does the bars, those would be the scariest for me the most (well, okay the beam not that far behind if I had to do nothing but walk- but she did so much more!!!)because I am not happy with heights. So, big Kudos from me!
Way to go Hannah! You did great!
