Band Camp '08

Towards the end of school in May, Harrison chose to be a part of the marching band program at Northgate High School. He worked at the Georgia Renaissance Festival for 6 weeks to earn the money required to be in the program. He's attended eight 3 hour practices over the summer; and switched instruments. He auditioned and was asked to switch to the mellophone. All of this, and school hasn't even started.

July 20-25, he went to Band Camp which was held at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. They stayed in the dorms at Dixon Hall. Their schedule was very full the entire week. Here is a sample of their days:

• 6:00AM--Wake up (Harrison would get up at 5:45 to get a shower)


• 6:15AM--Stretch/Run near Dixon Hall


• 6:45AM--Breakfast


• 7:15-7:45AM--Return to rooms to prepare for rehearsal


• 8:00-11:00AM--Rehearsal at fields


• 12:00-1:00PM--Lunch


• 1:00-2:30PM--Sectional Rehearsals


• 5:00-5:45PM--Dinner


• 6:15-9:00PM--Rehearsal on Drill Field


• 9:15-10:00PM--Time will be utilized as instructed


• 10:00PM--If above used for rehearsal, meet for planned activity


• 11:00PM--In rooms (rooms checked by chaperones)


• 11:30PM--Lights Out!

No wonder we went two whole days without hearing from Harrison :c). He said it was a tremendous amount of work, but really worth it. He had a lot of fun and made a lot of new friends. Going to school next Wednesday will be a piece of cake...he already has 87 friends.
